EXTENDING THE BOROUGH
Undercurrents of protest and disapproval in connection with the incorporation of the Pa and the Heads within the Borough .boundary, are becoming: manifest among- the residents of those residental areas. In view of the claims of progress, and the glaring need to do something in order to improve the appearance of the waterfront road, it is unfortunate that all parties cannot come together before the sitting of the commission which will be appointed to hear evidence. Should the dissatisfaction now abroad be permitted to grow there will be a procession of protesting householders who will, probably through. complete misunderstanding, do considerable harm to a movement intended ouly as a benefit to all. There are complications in the way, but they are not 'insurmountable. It is a welil-known fact that a special act protects the Maoris of the Pa from paying any administrative rates to local bodies. It is also known that the existing roads inthe Pa are but a quarter chain wide, and are therefore undedicated and beyond local body control. These are problems which can best be settled by conference which would clear the air for Borough and potential residents.
