TRAFFIC BREACH

APPLICATION OF LICENSE P.W.D. DRIVER PAYS COSTS Before Mr W. H. Freeman S.M. in the Te Puke Court on Thursday, a Maori, Te Haerga Pirini, was prosecuted by ilie County Traffic Inspector on a charge of driving' a Public Works Department vehicle in the Tauranga County when thelicense only applied to the Whakatane County.

Mr W. E. Hookey appeared for defendant, who made a formal pica of not guilty.

The question evolved the authority of the inter-change of licenses, and Mr Hookey stated that authority to carry the pumice had been given to the defendant by the engineer in charge of the public works in the Whakatane County, who was under the impression that the license already in operation would suffice:.

The Magistarte remarked, to the 'amusement of the court, that he considered the payment of costs would suffice, as ilo doubt the defendant would be sufficiently fined in another quarter.
