NEGLIGENT DRIVING
PROSECUTION AT TE PUKE FINES ON TWO CHARGES Mr W. H. Freeman S.M.' was on the bench at Te Puke on Thursday morning when Lucy Mikkelsen, married woman, of Otamarakau, was charged with negligent driving, and also with not having a warrant of fitness in the car.
It was stated in evidence that when approaching a bend on the main Te Puke-Whakatane highway, defendant saw a car approaching the corner and applied her brakes to reduce the speed, although at that point the road was sufficiently wide for two cars to pass easily. As her car slowed down, it Avent into a skid on the Avet pumice, draAV ing across to the Avrong side of the road Avhere the collision occurred with a car driven by Enoka Ngatai. Defendant Avas convicted and fined £1 and costs on the first charge, and 10s and costs on the second.
