ARMISTICE DAY
TWO MINUTES SILENCE ONLY PARTIAL OBSERVANCE Not all traffic, and certainly not all pedestrians observed the two minutes silence on Saturday. It is to be regretted that citizens of Whakatane failed in this honour to the dead of the Great War. ' The commencement of the twominutes silence wai marked both by the siren from the lire station and the hoisting of the Union Jack to half-mast at the Post Office, Despite these reminders, therewere people who continued merrily on their way, both, drivers of cars and trucks and people on the sidewalks. It was pleasing to note one citizen, however, who had apparently forgotten the occasion, lift his hat when he noticed that the flag at the Post Office was being lowered.
It is admitted that the majority of people do not continually check the time, and the fact that the occasion is only annual, also contributes to a lapse on the part of the general public.
