WESTERN FRONT QUIET
NO MAJOR (ACTIONS
The old slogan All Quiet on the Western Front may be applied to the same sectors at the present time though air observers have reported scenes of great activity behind the German lines, where at night the lights of endless motor lorries point to the transport of large bodies of troops. Troop trains are also arriving in quick succession. Whatever the German command has in mind the Allies are confident that thc^ r will be able to deal with it effectively. It is stated that the estimated fosses of the enemy in their recent push (5000 men) was out of all proportion to the small amount of ground gained. Heavy rain which, is now falling is also assisting the Allies. The Rhine is now in flood and the German defenders of the Seigfried Line were seen to be pumping frantically to lift the water from the fortifications.
