MUTUAL ASSISTANCE PACT
Turkish Solidarity AGREEMENT WITH BRITAIN AND FRANCE Ankara conversations between the Turkish, French and British Governments were brought to a successful conclusion when all parties signed the mutual assistance pact. The new agreement the signing of which was postponed pending the conclusion of the recent talks with Soviet Russia, will put into c fleet military and economic details in the event of aggression in the Mediterranean!, and also in the event of attack being made upon the countries of Greece and Rumania, both of whose neutrality has been guaranteed by Britain and France. The Turkish Press was unanimous in the rejection of the Rus-i sian demands, though the relations between the two countries continues upon a friendly basis. The pact caused keen disappointment in Berlin. The pact provides for an immediate conference in the event of military action by any other power which may be interpreted as aggression either against Turkey herself or against the guaranteed countries. It is of fifteen years duration but it cannot compel Turkey to go to war with Russia. In the House of Commons last night, the announcement of the signing of the pact by the Prime Minister, received the warmest congratulations by leaders of the Labour and the Liberal parties.
