WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
MEETING AT EDGECUMBE The monthly meeting of the Edgecumbe Women's Institute was held on Tuesday in the Edgecumbe Hall, Mrs Le . Lievre presided and there were thirty members present. The meeting opened with the singing ol' the Ode to Friendship while Mrs Withy of the Matata Institute read the institute aspirations. Mrs Goldsmith, who Avas a delegate to the council meeting at Waiotahi, gave an interesting report of the meeting It was decided to hold a monthly competition foi the best vegetable in the garden. Particulars were taken regarding members willing to billet children in the event of evacuation of the cities, Mrs Matthews of Whakatane W.I. then gave a most able and interesting demonstration of glove making. This was followed with keen interest and Mrs Matthews was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Mrs A. Martin of Awakeri then gave a very interesting talk on women's war work in England,, describing the activities of the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps, and the women's land army, in England during the last Avar. Mrs Martin Avas accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
An advertisement competition was won by Mrs Tnrnbull
Afternoon tea was served by Mrs and Miss Peppcreli and Mrs Old. The meeting concluded with the National Anthem.
