MR HULTQUIST'S INTENTION ADMINISTRATION OF ELECTORATE ■ " ''''. & N The intention of Mr A. G. Hultquist,. M.P.= for the Bay of Plenty, to enlist for active service; and details of the arrangements which he is making to enable the affairs of his electorate to be administered, are given in a circular letter to. the members of the Bay of Plenty Labour Representation Committee. Mr quist states that he has not yet / enlisted, in spite of a Welling-
ton announcement that he had taken this step, because of the necessity to complete arrangements for handing over the af- j fairs of his electorate to two of his Parliamentary colleagues. It ; may be some weeks yet before "* f ■ he joins up. ; Mr A. F. Moncur M.P., Rotorua, and Mr D. W. Coleman M.P., borne, have agreed to handle his ties while Mr Hultquist is serving. Mr Moncur will take the Whakatane and Qpotiki area inland to Trafford's Hill in the "YVaioeka, and Mr Coleman the south-eastern' side of < the ranges including the East Coast between Cape Runaway andv Gisborne. These arrangements are to take -effect on the day of Mr Hultquist's enlistment. Mr Hultquist states that he served his full period in the cadets and the territorials in the days of compulsory training. He is now 35 years of age, and when recently medically examined was pronounced completely fit. He is the fourth youngest Amember of the House, and possible*, T one of the two fittest of those four men. The other member has already enlisted as a private and Mr Hultquist intends to follow him as quickly as possible.
All shades of political opinion in the electorate will feel proud of Hultquist's action, which is a truly inspiring example. His constituents will join in wishing him the best of good fortune. Mr Hultquist's Qualities. The career.of Mr A. G. Hultquist, the energetic member of Parliament for the Bay of 'Plenty, who has given such an excellent lead by signifying his intention of enlisting, is too well known locally to need much recapitulation. Mr Hultquist has been active in Labour politics fop many years. He :did much work in .... Auckland before being selected to contest the Bay of Plenty seat, at that time held by the late Hon. K. S. Williams. Mr Hultquist did not oppose Mr Williams but after his death Avon the seat in a three-corn-ered contest after ,a remarkable display of organising ability and sheer hard work, and he retained it at the last election. Mr Hultquist's success may be attributed to his energy and organising: ability, and no doubft these, •.qualities.-will stand him in good s.f;ead iiy his military career. y ~~
