GISBORNE TO AUCKLAND y
" • * . " V:„ COMPANY NOW SHORT OF A PLANES . > • ..." •• , I - ■ - ■ ' After running for only seven ; months the Union Airways service between Auckland and Gisborne ends * to-da 3' owing to the requisitioning \ of machines by the Government for the purpose of training pilots for war service. The last run is from. Auckland to Gisborne, and the pilots return to Auckland by service car to-morrow. It has been a popular travel and it has rendered valuable service to the Bay. Early bookings were always necessary, there was never a trip without passengers and / the service lias been maintained regularly. The use by the Government of the Union Airways De Havilland planes * means that the . company has only three Lockheeds for all its services, and one of these planes is under repair. The American machines will be needed for other runs, including the Gisborne-Palmerston North ser- J£ vice which will be maintained.
