The last phase in the ill-fated Queen Carnival, takes place this evening when a dance promoted by the members of the central excutive will take place in the Winter Show hall, for the purpose of presenting the three young ladies who had acted as Queens, with a suitable gift to remind them of their association with the campaign, and further as a gesture of appreciation for their services. It is common property that the event when barely quarter way through netted approximately £230, and it is expected of all who took part to be present at tonights function.
STATEMENT AMENDED Mr J. W. Sumner, chairman of the Whakatane Harbour Board, has
interviewed us with reference to a statement made by him and reported in the BEACON, relative to a 'gap' in the seawall at the Centennial Park. The gap, explained Mr had not been caused by the weather as he had surmised but had been purposely made for the insertion of a culvert. There was nothing at Ifeult in the whole of the work, and he regretted if through ai misunderstanding there had been any reflection of the work of the engineer
