DEPAHTiyiENT HEADS REPORT The ; Centennial Park reclamation filling is practically completed and the agricultural tractor and roller has been used to consolidate, said the borough foreman, Mr W. S. Henderson, in his report. The planting of trees and grassing of this area will be carried out within the next few days. The dressing sheds are finished, the contractor having satisfactorily applied plaster coats - Excepting for painting, the conveniences an;l trellis enclosures are also ready. The concrete kerb and channel will not be undertaken until the arrival of the new moulds. On the Commerce Street-Goulstonc Road corner a double set of fencing has been removed and placed on a line which will allow considerable improvement to be effected to the roadway and pathway on this corner. Trees haA r e also been, removed. A new path is being formed from Russell Street to McAlister Street. This is being lowered and metalled to levels in readiness for ultimate laying of concrete path. Extensive scaling repair work has been carried out on Commerce Street, Domain Road, King Street and Bridge Street. Road shoulders King Street and Bridge Street were graded and widened. Traffic surfaecs have been widened by grading anti removing grassed road shoulders on. following streets? Stewart, Hinemoa Nelson, James, Eivers Road and McGarvey's Road. A blockage in Ihe Strand stortnwater system necessi-* tated breaking the sealed surface and lifting of pipes for repairs. ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT. New secondary lines in Victoria Avenue have been erected and a nun* ber of defective poles have been replaced in this section. Owing to the Post and Telegraph Department replacing a number of their poles, a number of service lines will have to be altered. This work is being carried out as replacements are made < said the electrical engi- ; neer, Mr F. W. Lysagh!. A structure to carry the. necessary switchgear ctc. for the new 7CO ; KVA transformer has erected. ! This transformer should be to hand t in the next Sew days an-! will not ~ be put into service for some time. ."Four new service lines have been erected dining the month. Five ranges, five hotwater cylinders seven lighting and heating, ami , j one motor have been tested t'ncl copuccted up to the supply. There were also a number of alterations , and additions. A start has been made with the erection of a new street light in McAlister Street. The pumping plants have been in service every day during the montti and are in fair order. The new chlorinating plant has now come to hand and Avill probably be installed during the next few weeks. Building permits for two new residences one shed- and one garage were issued. The value of these buildings amounted to £845. Eighteen head of stock had beea impounded said the inspector, Mr M. Penny. Three cows and one horse were released. He had given owners a fair warning regarding dogs In town. A few dogs 'came in from th--Pa and when convenient he Would deal with them with the courty ranger.
