IN THE NAVY
whakatane county CHAIRMAN , A cable was received at the erid of last weic from Lieutenant-Comman-der and Mrs J. G. Ciilf McCull'och, who arc at present in and all will be glad to know that they were well and sale at that time. As most people know, our county chair-, man retired from the Royal Navy as a Lieutenant-Commander, and on his return to England a month or .so before the outbreak of Avar it is believed he was called up with other reserve officers. It is not definitely knowft whether he is at present afloat or serving ashore, but the county can take pride in the fact that its leading citizen is already at his post. Whakatane js certainly the only New Zealand county whose chairman, has brought it. this distinction; possibly it is the only county in the Empire Similarly placed.
