ENTRANCE TO DOMAIN A decision to write to the Government urgently and seek assistance to purchase a - strip of land on Mr Good's property on the western side of the Whakatane Domain for the purpose of an additional entrance was taken by the Whakatane Borough Council at its meeting on Monday night. HEADS PARK A plaque will be placed on, the larger rock on the foreshore below the centennial park inscribed "Wairalta Park—ln commemoration New Zealand Centennial, 1840-1940" and prices have been called for the tablet which is to be of black and bear the inscription in, gold lettering. It will be similar to tlie plaque on Pohaturoa Rock. TOMORROW NIGHT'S INGLESIDE The Whakatane Caeldonian Society in pursuance of its policy of assisting actively in the furtherance of any deserving cause, will be promoting one of its popular Ingleside programmes in, the King Street Hall termor row evening in the interests of the Red Cross Society. ALLANDALE DRAINAGE There was a brief discussion at Monday night's meeting of the Whakatane Borough Council when a plan was tabled showing the location of a new drain constructed by Mr A. Allen on his property. On Cr W. Sullivan's motion it was decided to refer the matter to the works committee,. which is to meet Mr Allen on the spot and discuss the question of drainage. FRUIT TREES BLOSSOM The approach of Spring is to be seen reflected in the local orchards, where the plum apple & early peach trees are already a mass of blossom. In all parts of the Bay of Plenty, the showy reminders of the warmer season are to be seen on all hands and the harvest should be fully in accordance with the title so fittingly bestowed on the district by Captain Cook in 17G9. SHROUDED IN GLOOM With the sunshine playing on the mainland, it was a singular sight yesterday to note the appearance of White Island which remained surrounded by the dark clouds of a pass ing rain shower. The contrast was all the more pronounced by the. pall of steam from - the active crater, which mingling with the weather created a cloud effect which to many observers was unprecedented.
