THE MAIN HIGHWAY
Sir—l wonder if your correspondent who speaks so emphatically on the subject of the bar of the Wha« katane Harbour silting up ? in the event of a little reclamation taking place, realises the true position of the proposal. The new Main Highway, does not cut oil' any more of the mud flat area, than at present under survey for reclamation by the Harbour Board. If he has visited the place under discussion he will see the deflecting wall which extends from, the Commerce Street corner out into the mud area;. This is all the land which will be taken from the present flow of the tide waters and I fail to see how such a small area could possibly effect the volume of outgoing water at the bar, even if his argument does hold good, which would be hard to prove. If he could back his contention up by a qualified more notice would probablj' be taken of his point. Yours etc., COMMON SENSE.
