MAIN HIGHWAY AND HARBOUR
I . • Sir, —Does your correspondent of Monday last when commenting oil the Main Highway and Harbour know or realise: That the harbour is more important to the whole district than any road running through the borough. That in order to keep the harbour entrance, open or. workable there must' be sufficient scour from tidal service. That reclaiming reduces and therefore prevents scour. Reclaiming will lie done if the main road goes via Quay Street. That the main channel at the Heads has been blocked for about thrse months—a very serious matter. That further reclaiming will make matters worse. , 4 That the vessel "Toa" was almost lost on the bar a month ag*o for want of water. That if we have, a dry season during the coming summer the bar will be unworkable and That Whakatane will * of course, be on the.map. Yours etc., MUD FLAT.
