JUST A SHORT STORY This story of an inventive New Zealand farmer has had considerable currency in Australia according to the Sydney Morning Her. aid. Knowing the traditional reluctance of sheep to enter a dip, the farmer constructed a perforated steel platform over the trough. The principle was to drive the sheep on to this, then null a lever and plunge thrm into t'ie wash. A dozen or so neighbours called to inspect the mach ! nc and give their opinion, an interested member of the party being the farmer's six year old son. First the pnrtv mounted the platform to inspcct its construction. Need it be told? The six year old pulled the lever. For the next week the"boy's mother used to smuggle food to liim it his various hidc_outs round the property.
