SOCIAL SECURITY FEE YOUNG PEOPLE NOT REGISTERED A Press Association message from Wellington says that according to ru gistrations under the Social Security Act received by the regi,strat ; on branch of the Land and Income Tax Department to the end of May there are about 1600 youths and 5000 females who have failed to register. The registration branch is according. I lj r compiling a defaulters' list and t is the intention of the Commissioner of Taxes 'to take action under section 110. which provides that persons who fail to register during the month following tlie required date have com. niitted an offence and are therefore liable on conviction to a fine of E5. As there will .still be time for defaulters to register before the commissioner can take action, it is probable most of those who have not registered will do so and avoid appearing on the defaulters' list. All registrations under the - Act have been ru ranged in alphabetical order and the department is now in a position tp say who has registered or not. A good deal of trouble was entailed bv people registered under the Employment.
