CALEDONIAN SOCIETY'S INGLESIDE ASSISTING AMBULANCE FUND The popularity of the Whakatana > Caledonian Society's colourful Ingle. - side, was again very much in, evi- \ dence last Friday evening when the King Street Hall was packed to capacity. The occasion was a special ' one, the Society fulfilling its tracli. tional role of assisting a deserving cause whenever possible. In this in. ■ stance it was the Ambulance Fund, and the programme presented was unanimously declared the finest of the season to date. Kilt and pipes came into their own and the flash of the tartan was to be seen, on all sides. Old time dancing and splendid items characterised an evening which for sheer fun and genuine enjoyment would be hard to surpass. Chief W. J. Simons took control of the proceedings and kept things moving at a merry pace. The band though not at full strength, played well and provided popular music for such dances as the 'Call o' the Pipes, 'Gay Gordons' and the 'Highland Schotische. 7 The programme a.s usual was interspersed Avith a number of muck appreciated and particularly good items. The solos by Mrs T. W. Burke t who sang 'Grannies Hei'lan' Hame was worth coming a long way to hear in themselves. Mr M. Burke (Kutarere) was also heard to goorl effect in another solo 'Rose Marie' and received warm applause. Master Len Broadmorc, Whakatane's j'oung prodigy on the cornet charmed his hearers with a clever selection which for touch and gei;. eral balance was little short of am"z. ing, to, those who had not enjoyed hearing him before. Exhibition dancing was naturally to the fore, Miss K. "Walton giving a finished demonstration of the Sear. Truibhais. Miss Jean Howat supplied a lively ,Fling, while little Yvonne McNaughton was seen in a. particular ly expressive Irish Jig. A clever exhibition of tap dancing was given by another young artist from Taneatua little Miss R. Merry whose neat stooping won genera] approbation. Pip. ers D. Patterson. S. Stark and A Donaldson provided the dance music Slipper which was fully up to ex peel-aft ions was served by membor of the committee assisted by th bandsmen.
