FAMOUS REGIMENT'S TARTAN
The New Zealand Scottish Regiment, through its alliance with the Black Watch, will have the honour of wearing a tartan which has been, in the foi'efront of battle the worlJ over. Raised in 1729 ''to keep the peace in the Highlands,'' 'the Black Watch has won fame in Many campaigns. Up to the Great War, its honours included Guadeloupe (1759), Martinique (1762) ( Havana, North America (1763.64), India, Peninsula Wars, Waterloo, South Africa (1846-47, Egypt (1884.85) and South Africa (1899-1902) . In the Great War, the Black Watch consisted, in addition to two regul?r and special reserve battalions of half a dozen territorial and two service battalions besides an allied regiment of Canadian militia.
