DEATH OF GIRL
CONCLUSION OF INQUEST
Medical evidence taken when iheadjourned inquest into the death of Putiputi Pateriki, aged l 6 years, of Ruatoki North, wa,s continued in I'ae AVhakatane Courthouse before Mr G. A. Brabant, J. P., District on Wednesday afternoon \v.as that of Dr E. T. Dawson, who stated that deceased was admitted to hospital at Whavkatane on June 9th. She was pale but in no evident distress. Her condition became worse in the evening and an operation was performed immediately. Serious internal injuries were shown. She did not rally, and died about 3.30 a. m on June 11. Mere Hatatai, a, cousin of said that on June 8 they were bolli riding on the one horse, which slipped on the wet grass and threw them them off. The horse tramped on her cousin. Hatata Peita, father of the previous witness, said that shortly after the accident he looked through tho window of his house and saw his daughter holding the horse and giving it a hiding. He went to see what had happened and Putiputi told him that she had been, trodden on by the horse. He carried her as gently as he could into his house and rang for the j doctor. This concluded the evidence. The coroner returned a verdict that Putiputi Pateriki died at the Whakatane Hospital from injuries received when
she accidentally fell from a horse which she was riding.
