PREPARING FOR OPENING

CLASSES AND ATTRACTIONS

With borough workmen spreading metal on the paths and roads, electricians stringing coloured lights or installing public address systems, carpenters at work, ladies preparing th e various stalls, and tra.de exhibitors unpacking their displays and building booths, the Whakatane Winter Show where the 12th annual show opens this evening, was a busy spot yesterday. Much work remained to be done but order was coming out oi chaos and everything was proceeding I well for the opening by Mr A. G. Hultquist M.P. The judging in the agricultural, vegetables, fruit, home industries, needlework and art, art and photography, and school sections v/dl be completed to-morrow. The poultry show will be held on Friday and Saturday and the dogs will be judged on Thursday. Thursday will be Scottish day when piping and dancing competitions vviL. be held and Friday is Children's Day. There will be competitions throughout the day, and a concert by finalists will be given in the Grand Theatre in the evening.

A big?procession of decorated motor vehicles, prams, children's bicycles and including classes for children in faincy costumes, will be held on Saturday leaving Boon, Sullivan and Luke's at 1.30 and proceeding down Commerce Street and The Strand to the Show.
