WHAKATANE GIRLS DO WELL VICTORIES AT TAURANGA A very successful and exciting basketball tournament Avas held in the Tauranga Domain on Monday, Jo teams* competing for the Wilkinson Trophy donated by the Mayor of Tauranga,. The trophy was won by the Whakatane Old Girls, after seveial hard fought matches. The form of the players was very high and some fast and interesting matches resuU_ ed. Matches were played throughout the morning and afternoon. The outstanding game of the day was that between Te Puna_ the Tauranga leading team and Whakata;ie Old Girls. At the end of the game the score was 6.6 and the teams played another game, the score this time reading l_l. The referee decided to play extra, time for one team to get. the extra goal. Play was very exciting at thig period,- Whakatane being very fortunate in scoring the first goal. Thus Whaka.tane won by 2-1." In the final with the 'Kiwis Wlfa.. katane Old Girls agaj.n.< , ame out the winners by 10.3. The march past, which was headed by the Tauranga Pipe Band, was a very impressive sight, the teams marching round the Domain once after which the final matches were played.
