WAIMANA NOTES

GARDENING CIRCLE (Beacon Correspondent) There was a very good attendance of members at the monthly gardening circle meeting of the Waimana. Nukuhou Women's Institute, which was held at the home of Mrs A. Iv. Bell, Waimana. Mrs Jerram presided. Apologies were received from several members who were unable to be present. Miss Stansbury read the minutes of the previous meeting. The culture of Hydrangeas was well discussed and the pruning of shrubs was also touched on. Humorous readings on gardening were given by Mrs Jerram and much enjoyect. The competitions for the afternoon were: Vase of painted foliage, Mrs Mitchell I, Mrs Burnett 2, Mrs Wool. Held 3. Best flower; Mrs Mitchell 1. with a pink Geranium, Mrs Mottram Mrs Eagle 3. A memory test competition Avas won by Mrs Stevenson and Mrs C. Wylde. After a dainty tea had been served by the hostesses, Mrs Cranswick and Miss Stansbury, a walk was taken round the garden, which was very neat and trim. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the judge Mrs W. Addison and also to the hostesses and M r s Bell for her kind hospitality. This closed the meeting.
