NEW PRESIDENT

MR HENDERSON HEADS WHAKATANE RUGBY

The post of president of the Wha. katane Rugby Sub-Union changed hands at the annual meeting last week when after Mr A. O. Stewart had announced his decision not to .seek re-election, Mr W. S« Henderson, secretary of the Y,ay of Plenty Rugby Union, and Referees' Association delegate to the sub-union, was elected unanimously. Mr Stewart announced his retirement after he had presented his annual report, in which he stressed the Satisfactory position of the union. There was a good cash balance and the club competitions had been productive of good football. The representative team had been a little unlucky because some of the best men had beea, taken by the Bay Union. However, this was an honour.. Mr Henderson asked Mr Stewart to change his mind in the matter of resignation but the president was firm, and Mr I. Tunui proposed Mr Henderson as president, Mr J. Denham seconding the proposal. Mr Henderson said that he was grateful for the but added that he felt diffident as he was a newcomer to the district and there were older men worthy of the post. ''If I am chosen I will be in boots and all,'' he added laughingly. Other speakers supported his election which was unanimous.
