FROM LEAGUE TO RUGBY
WHAKATANE UNION MEETS
There was a fair muster of supporters and club delegates to the u~u nual meeting of the Whakatane Rugby Sub-Union in the Count-,' Chambers, Whakatane, on Wednesday evening April 12. A notable feature was the presence of delegates from the Ruatoki Club, signifying a revival of interest in Rugby Union football among a number of players in that district after a seasons experience in Rugby League. The Ruatoki delegates were welcomed back to Union, football by speakers, and it was recided that the club allotted Ruatoki as a home ground, this solving one of the contentious points of the past. Delegates were present as follows: Whakatane Club, Messrs J. Dcnham and L» Ormond (temporary); Paro*. C Pile and J. Hohapata; Poroporo, I* Tunui and S. Merito; Waimana J.' Brown and D. Boynton; Taneatua, T. Gee and W. Sisam; Ruatoki, I. Trainor; Referees, W. S. Henderson. ELECTION OF OFFICERS The election of officers at the gen. eral meeting and the subsequent com mittee meeting resulted as follows: Patron, Mr W. Sullivan; vice-patron, Mr W. R- Boon; president, Mr WS. Henderson; vice.presidents. Messrs A. Webb A. O. Stewart, J. Plamus, J. D. Rivett, H. E. Cucksey, A. Hayter, W. Alexander, W. Wright, j J. White, Rev Wharetini Rangi; honorary awVitor, Mr Evan Baxter, honorary surgeons, Dr Grigor, I.'r Fletcher Cole; honorary secretary Mr F. J. Peebles. Teanis for the new season were notified as follows: -Waimana one* senior, one junior, colours xed and black; Taneatua one senior, one junior, colours black and white; Poioporo one senior, one junior, colours light blue; Paroa one senior, one junior colours black: Ruatoki one senior* team, colours green. The Whakatane delegates were unaWie to furnish definite information to the meeting as the club's annual meet, ing had not then, been held. It wa« decided not to open the coming season with a seven-*-side tournament, and on Mr I. Tunui's motion April 29 was fixed as the opening dsj r , with the first meeting of the management committee on April 21. The draw for the first round will be made at this meeting Committee meetings will be held alternately at Whakatane and Taneatua as in the past.
Messrs Peebles and Woolliams were selected as delegates to the annual meeting of the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union at Whakatanc on Saturday, April 17. They were instructed to oppose any move to change the head, quarters of the parent union in the coming season.
