INFLUENZA WAVE
V.A.D.'S REPLACE NURSES (0.C.) GISBORNE, this day. That volunteers had been called from the Voluntary Aid Detachment owing to influenza among the nursing staff of the Cook Hospital, was reported by the matron to a meeting of the board. Three sisters and seven nurses, she said, went off duty within a few hours, and eight more the following day. A special ward was opened for staff cases, and both the home sister and acting-matron were among the patients. The call to the Voluntary Aid Detachment brought an instant response, and the situation was now well in hand and the hospital functioning along the usual lines.
