STOCKINGS AGAIN
MOCK-FASHIONED HOSE
QUESTION OF COUPONS
Before leaving for Wellington last night the Dominion Rationing Controller, Mr. J. E. Thomas, said that representations had been made to him by one Auckland retail drapery business that women's mock-fashioned rayon hose, of which large retail stocks had been accumulated in some places, should be permitted to be sold without coupons. The question had been raised previously in other quarters, said Mr. Thomas, and had been submitted to the executive of the New Zealand Drapers' Federation and rejected. There seemed to him to be little merit in the request, since, as from the making available on Monday of coupon X 7 for one pair of full-length full-fashioned hose, the rating of mock-fashioned and circular types was reduced from two M coupons to only one. However, the question would again be submitted to the Drapers' Federation, but it seemed unlikely that the aversion to letting! hosiery go coupon-free would have changed.
