AUSTRALIAN ORANGES HERE
There were heavy vegetable supplies at the city markets to-day. Pumpkins were in good supply, choice lines realising good prices. Small consignments of new potatoes and green peas and beans sold to a keen demand. Supplies of cabbage and cauliflower were heavy, realising fair prices. Onions were in fair supply with the demand firmer. There is still a fairly good demand for dessert pears. Hothouse tomatoes sold at good rates A keen demand existed for choice tree tomatoes. New Zealand grape fruit were easier. Australian oranges were distributed yesterday and to-day. Prices were:—
Frnit.—Apples; Granny Smith. 5/ to 9' per caseDelicious. 76 to 15/; Sturmer. 66 to 10/: Golden Delicious. 8/ to 10/. Pears: Winter Nelis 16/ to 19/ per case. Tomatoes: Hothouse. 1/6 to Z_7 per case. Tree tomatoes: New Black, exchoice, 18/ to 20' per case; others. 10/ to 15/ per case: Yellow, 12/ to 15/ per case. Marmalade oranges. 8 to 14/ per case. Grapefruit: NewZealand ex-choice. 16/ to 21/ per case: others and small, 8, to 12/6 per case. Passion Iniit. 15/ to 22/ per case.
Vegetables.—Beet, 4/ to 8/ per case, or 1.6 to 2'9 per dozen. Celery, cooking, 1/ to 2/ per bundle: dessert. 2.6 to 6/ per bundle. Carrots. 5/ to 10/ per bag, or 1/6 to 2/3 per dozen. Cauliflowers. 4/ to 8/ per sack. Cabbages. 2/ to 6' per sack. French beans and stringless beans, hothouse. 1/ to 2/3 per lb. Green peas. 9d to 19 per lb. Kumaras, 14/ to 20/ per cwt; Tauranga. 10/6 to 16 6 per bag. Leeks, 1/ to 1/6 per bundle. Lettuce. 3/ to 9/ per case. Marrows. 5/ to 9/ per sack. Onions. 12/ to 16/ per bag.
