TO-MORROWS GAMES
AUCKLAND V. WAIKATO LEAGUE THIRD ROUND OPENS The principal event in the outdoor sporting arenas to-morrow is the Rugby representative match at Hamilton between Auckland and Waikato. This was postponed from the King's Birthday. There are several changes in the Auckland XV which beat the Tank Brigade 23—11 five weeks ago. The most notable "replacements" are C. A. Kingstone and L. w. Schubert. The former, who is in the Air Force, represented Canterbury earlier in the season. In one club game in Christchurch he scored three tries from full-back, which position he is now to fill again for Auckland. Schubert, who recently returned from service overseas, has been one of Auckland's finest wingers for several years, and in 1939 he was in the North Island XV which was beaten 23—19 by South at Athletic Park. Waikato has been strongly reinforced by Army players, and a keen struggle is anticipated. The Gallaher Shield competition will be continued despite the absence of 20 men at Hamilton. An exciting contest on Eden Park Oval is bound to be that between the C.R.O.'s and Ranfurlys. The latter side, coming up from the second division with all its points, is equal with Garrison in second position, as the latter's defeat by Manukau let M.TJP. through to top the ladder again. C.R.O.'s will be weakened by the absence of B. Faire and E. G. Boggs in Waikato. The Auckland Rugby League's programme comprises the opening series of the third round, and the Ponsonby-Rlch-mond match has been allotted pride of place. The position of Carlaw Park clubs in the senior championship is:— _ _ Points ch. P W L F A Pts Manukau 10 8 2 181 83 16 City - Otahuhu .10 1 3 103 16 14 Newton - Mt. Mount Albert A and Metro v. Mount Albert B (curtainraiser). C.R.O. visits North Shore, while Ponsonby engages Naval Base at the Domain. For the first time since completion of the Newmarket Borough Council's new ground, Sarawia Reserve, competitive sports will be played there. The programme is two senior hockey games, the other three being scheduled for Walker Park (Grey Lynn).
