PRICE OF BUTTER
VOICE OF THE DAIRY FARMER (0.C.) TE AWAMUTU, this day. "I feel sure that I am voicing the opinion of many dairy farmers when I say that the increase granted by the New Zealand Government of id per lb butter as from August 1 next was a totally inadequate recompense for the costs which have been piling up steadily against the farmer during the four years since the price for butter was fixed at 14.Sd per lb," said the chairman of directors (Mr. E. H. Rhodes) at the annual meeting of the Te Awamutu Co-op. Dairy Company. "In the early stages of the war there was a deep conviction throughout the industry that we should not ask the British Government to pay a higher price for our produce," he continued, "but it would not be surprising if the British authorities did recognise in some tangible manner their appreciation of the effort which we shall put forward to send Home the last ton of butter which we can produce."
