STREET LIGHTING

LOCAL BODY'S REQUEST

In a report presented at a meeting of the Waiteniata Electric Power. Board yesterday afternocn, the manager. Mr. A. Main, referred to a request by the New Lynn Borough Council that the board consider a reduction of street lighting charges during the period of reduced lighting. Mr. Main said that the charges by the board were among the lowest in the Dominion, and it had consistently reduced its street lighting charges. It had given more favourable discounts than for any other classes of supply, and were to-day maintaining and supplying the service to local authorities in its area on a non-profitable basis. Any further reduction in street lighting charges would result in the service being carried on at a loss.

Mr. Main's recommendation that the hoard should not accede to the request at the present juncture was adopted.
