AIR RAID PRACTICE
An air raid practice was held at the Westfield Freezing Company's works on Sunday by the Red Cross detachment from Otahuhu, assisted by the E.P.S. from Grey Lynn. One hundred "casualties" were dispersed through the various departments of the works and evacuated by stretcher squads furnished by the Grey Lynn E.P.S. Lorries were engaged to transport the "casualties" to the first aid post, where an emergency operating theatre and dressing room were established. The "casualties" were then classified according to the urgency of their supposed disabilities. The demolition squad and fire brigades also carried out a programme in connection with their various functions. The frequent detonations of "bombs" made the exercises exceedingly realistic, and many persons were treated for shock only. The chairman of the Auckland Hospital Board, Mr. A. J. Moody, and Lieutenant-Colonel Hardie Neil inspected the detachment and E.P.S. personnel, and were much impressed by the work being done in connection with the training and preparation for dealing with any forthcoming emergency. The medical officer m attendance was Dr. Griffin of Otahuhu. '
