POWER POLES

USE OF LARCH TIMBER The Waitemata Electric Power Board has decided to use creosoted larch power poles. In a report presented at a meeting of the board yesterday afternoon, the manager, Mr. A. Main, said that the possibility of getting hardwood poles from Australia was remote, and manufacture of reinforced concrete poles was out of the question, owing to the necessary steel being urgently required for national purposes. Mr. Main said that larch, properlv seasoned and properly treated with creosote, offered the best solution for the supply of power poles. After visiting the State forest sawmill at Whakarewarewa at Rotorua, he was satisfied that the Department would easily be able to supply future requirements of electric supply authorities.
