SHOT THE ROBBER

A MANDALAY FUNERAL . Major T. G. Robertson, former manager of the Syrian Oil Company, Major Thomas Tilson, of the United States Army, and three more Britons were killed by a bomb in Mandalay. Sirens had sounded and they were running from a car to take shelter when a high-explosive burst 20 yards from them. All five were buried in graves at the roadside by Mr. Dwight Thompson, of the United States Technical Mission, and his wife. As Mr. Thompson was digging the grave of Major Robertson a Burman armed with a "clah" (long, curved knife) crept up and tried to sever the dead Briton's arm to obtain his wrist watch.

The American stopped digging and shot the man.
