TURK'S AGE DEBUNKED
"Was that famed oldster, Zara Agha, a Turk who claimed to be 157 years of age, the oldest old-timer?"
Walter Bowerman, actuary for a world-famous insurance company, found out that Zara Agha was exactly 97 when he died in 1934. Actording to Bowerman, there are only eight authenticated cases of people who have lived more than 108 years. Seven of them were women. The record is held by a Canadian, Pierre Joubert, who was 113 when he passed out in 1814. The runner-up is the Hon. Kathleen Plunkett, of Ireland, who died in 1932, a few days before her 112 th birthday. N.B.—Methuselah does not come into this longevity business.
