MINISTER'S POWERS
TO MEET WAR CONDITIONS

The Industrial Emergency Council. which is made up of employers' and workers' representatives, can consider applications and make recommendations to the Minister of Labour, who has the power to make orders for the suspension of awards or parts of awards in order to meet the present war conditions. This was stated by Mr. Webb, Minister of Labour, in New Plymouth last night in answer to a question about the possibility of workers doing extra hours on Saturday morning instead of overtime at night. If workers desired to work on Saturday morning in preference to night overtime, that was largely a question of office organisation as far as State Departments were concerned, he said.
