DIGGERS' NEWS
TROOPS' CONCESSION
HOME NEWS APPRECIATED
Appreciation of the Saturday evening Sports Edition and the inset Diggers' News Summary sent to the forces overseas is expressed in a letter received from Gunner Jack Lynch, of Auckland, a survivor of the German prison ship Altmarck. Gunner Lynch says: ''The Eight O'Clocks sent by the Auckland Star Sports and Social Club are arriving regularly and are much appreciated, especially the News Summary, which keeps u&_ in touch with things at home. The 8.8.C. puts on a Diggers News Letter every week, but. as we in tne navy can't always tune in, the News Summary is more or less our only source of home news. "When I first joined the ship." continues Gunner Lynch. there were two printers aboard, out at present I am the only one. One 01 these chaps worked for the Liasgow Herald, which is owned by Lord Beaverbrook, and used to receive a paper like our Whizz Bang, but i can honestly say that the Whizz Bang is miles ahead of their issue. (The "Whizz Bang." it should be explained, is the official organ of the Auckland Star Sports and Social Club.)
The Saturday evening Sports Edition is sent, together with the Diggers' News Summary, every Monday morning free of charge by the Auckland Star to all members of the staff serving overseas. This advantage in receiving, in a condensed form, the news of the week is not reserved only for members of the staff of the Auckland Star. Any member of the forces serving overseas is eligible to receive his weekly copy of the Sports Edition and the News Summary.
For those who wish to take advantage of the concession, the charge is three shillings for a quarter. This is pavable to the Auckland Star Office, P.O. Box 1409. and the service can begin at any time.
Soldiers and airmen also appreciate the Diggers' News Summary. Order a copy for your boy now: you can make him no more acceptable a present.
