BEAUTIFULLY BRED

Centrepoise, winner of the Parliamentary Handicap, is a six-year-old son of Hunting Song and the Limond—Sequinette mare Monette, who was of little account herself but has some notable forbears. Sequinette, who never raced, was a half-sister by St. Ambrose to Seadown (Wellington Autumn Handicap, etc.), and to Sea Queen (winner of 17 races, including the Wairarapa Easter Handicap, Manawatu Liverpool Handicap, and IJannevirke Cup). Sequinette's dam. Sequin, was out of Radiant, a half-sister to Cooya, whose descendants include Mullingar (winner of the Great Northern and Avondale Guineas, Avondale Cup, Avondale Jockey Club Handicap and Wanganui Connolly Handicap) and Sir Chrystopher (winner of the A.J.C. Doncaster Handicap). The New Zealand taproot is the Fireworks mare Radiance, whose dam, a V.R.C. Oaks victor, was half-sister to the Melbourne Cup winner Lantern, who also took the V.R.C. Derby.

SOX OF GAY SHEILA

A recent addition to J. Chisholm's team is a rising two-year-old by Vermeer from Gay Sheila. He has any amount of size, and shows plenty of quality. This colt stands over a lot of ground, and is a solidly-built youngster that looks likely to make good.

PROMISING NOVICE

Donnybrook Fair, in H. and A. Cutts' team, shows more than average promise. He had one race last spring, and he should be seen to advantage in a novice event next month, as he is a bold galloper.
