United Press Association.—Copyright. Rec. 11 a.m. WASHINGTON, May 28
The War Department considers that a Japanese air raid on tl/j United States is inevitable in retaliation for the attack on Japan by Brigadier-General Doolittle and his airmen, said Mr. 11. L. Stimson, Secretary for War. at a Press conference. lie added: "The army is doing everything possible to meet the expected attack, which is most likely on the west coast. Whatever happens, we shall not relax our most effective defence which is a preparation for a major offensive."
