AUCKLANDER'S SHIP
DESTROYS ENEMY BOMBER
Early in March it was reported from London that the trawler Negro had shot down a Junkers 88, which had attacked it, without or damage to the vessel. It has since been learned that the commander of the Negro at the time was Lieu-tenant-Commander R. S. Cameron, R.N.V.R., well-known in Auckland. He was in the employ of the Bank of NeW Zealand here, and before the war was a lieutenant-commander in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. To avoid a long wait before going overseas he transferred to tne N.Z.E.F. and left New Zealand as a captain in the artillery. While in the Middle East, however, he was transferred back to the navy. Lieu-tenant-Commander Cameron s wife and young daughter live at 2, Rangitoto Terrace, Milford.
