PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE.

SOCIAL AT PONSONBY. Under the auspices of the Ponsonby branch of the Auckland Metropolitan Patriotic Committee, a social and gift afternoon was held in the Baptist Hall, Jervois Road, yesterday. In In the absence of the branch president, Mrs. S. O. England, the function was presided over by Mrs. J. C. Allum, who extended a welcome to the large and representative gathering. The numerous gifts, brought to the social for inclusion jn parcels for soldiers showed the keen interest of the women in the work of the branch. A programme arranged by Mrs. G. Dowdihg was contributed to by. Mr| N. Simpson, Mrs. E. K. Asher, Mrs. H. C. McLennan, Mrs. R. C. Matthews and Miss Phyllis Renner. Afternoon tea, was served by the ladies of the Baptist Church.
