CENTENARY PLANS.
POSTPONEMENT DECIDED ON. The Auckland Provincial Centennial Council decided at a meeting last evening to postpone the Auckland Centennial celebrations until after the war. Previously it had been tentatively arranged that November 2 should be set aside for a demonstration, comprising historical pageantry, and a display at the Domain. Provision was also made for the holding of a gathering of early settlers, and a parade by military, naval and air force units. It wa« ascertained, however, that it would not be possible to obtain the co-operation of the armed services, and that sufficient athletes and performers would not be available. Consideration was given to a suggestion that the celebration might be confined to an early settlers' reunion, but it was felt that such an event in itself would not adequately commemorate the occasion.
