FLYING ACE.
HOME TOWN TRIBUTE. WAXGAXUI, Wednesday. "The exploits of Flight-Lieutenant Alan C. Deere, of this city, have been prominently associated with hie name as a member of the Royal Air Force, almost since the outbreak of war," said the Mayor of Wanganui, Hon. W. J. Rogers, M.L.C., at a meeting of Council last night. "This young man, of whom the citizens are justly proud, has figured always where the heat of battle lias been most keenly felt, and hie courageous determination and heroic qualities have won for him the coveted distinction of the Distinguished Flying Cross, with Bar. He is called in R.A.F. parlance, 'A Flying Ace,' and from reports concerning his many exploits he would appear to have thoroughly earned this distinguished name. The citizens of Wanganui are indeed proud of the part he is playing and-lias played, both in France and in the Battle of Britain." The council decided to send a letter of congratulation to Flight-Lieutenant Deere's parents. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Deere, of Wanganui.
