NEW LYNN COUNCIL.

The Deputy-Mayor. Mr. J. S. Akehurst, presided at the monthly meeting of the New Lynn Borough Tennis Club Lease.—The New Lynn Tennis Club wrote stating that the proposed conditions of the new lease for a period of 10 years at an annual rental of £1. the club having the right to lay down permanent courts, was acceptable to the club. R.S.A. Hall Plan.—The Western Suburbs Returned Soldiers' Association wrote asking the selling price, ratable value and annual rates on the council property adjoining H. J. Powell's coal yard in Great North Road, as It wished to purchase a section and erect a hall. Emcrcenry Precautions.—Sir Ernest Davis. Chief Warden for the Emergency Precautions Scheme Organisation. Auckland Metropolitan Area, wrote asking that the council pass a resolution adopting the present organisation as set out on an attached memorandum. This was necessary to give legal effect to the arrangement under the recent Emergency Precautions Seheme regulations gazFactory Proposal.—The Coventry Box Factory wrote asking if the council would permit a sawmilling and box-making factory on the banks of the Whau creek.—The council decided to refer the letter to the borough town planning adviser for a report, and to ask that further information be supplied with respect to locality, motive power to be used, method cf disposal of waste sawdust and the control of noise and smoke. Ratepayers' Complaint.—The New Lynn Ratepayers' Association wrote complaining of roving and uncontrolled dogs in the borough, and asking annoyance.—lt was decided to reply that to the best of the councils knowledge all dogs were registered, but if the association could point out any unregistered dogs, the council would be pleased to act. Smoke Nuisance.—The borough health Inspector. Mr. B. J. Drake, reported on the smoke nuisance in the borough caused by smoke discharged from the brick works. He stated that complaints with investigations being carried out over a wide area definite nuisance and that complaints had been well founded. The direction of the wind was a governing factor, and each particular locality was only affected for short periods. A plan was submitted with the report, showing the radius of smoke concentration and tha various prevailing winds. The council decided to refer the report to the borough solicitor for his opinion.
