LOCAL BODIES.

PAPAKURrt COUNCIL. The Mayor. Mr. S. Evans, presided at the fortnightly meeting of the Papakura Borough Council. Tiiblic Pound, Takanini.—A copy of the agreement prepared by the county solicitors for completion by the loral bodies concerned In the erection of the public pound at Takanini was received from the Manukau County Council. Approval was expressed and authority given for the common seal to be affixed when the agreement for signing comes along. Mobilisation Camp Reads.—Advice was received from Mr. J. Wood, chairman of the Main Highways Board, in Wellington, that the Minister of Public Works has approved of Waiter t. McLennan's and Grove Roads in the Papakura Borough and Manukau County being declared main highways. Traffic Inspector's Report.—Reporting on the parking of cars at the Papakura saleyards. the inspector stated that the position was improving. Free Housing Land. — A communication was received from the Hon. H. T. Armstrong thanking the council for its offer of free land lor State housing and statins that the property would be investigated by his officers, who would give due consideration to the offer when additional building sites were being selected. Auckland Centre's 100-Mile Race.—Application land Amateur Cycling Association to start their 100-mile annual race to Ngaruawnhia at the Soldiers' Monument and finish in Beach Road. The application was granted. Surplus Materials.—A number of surplus pipes and fittings at. the filter station, which had been left after recent alterations had been carried out, was reported on by the foreman. Mr. M Finn who suggested it would be advisable to dispose of them, es they would probably never be used An inventory of the materials is to be made first.
