DRINK NEAR HALL.
BUCKLAND'S BEACH OFFENCE. Charged with having drink in his possession near a dance hall at Buckland's beach on August 3, Albert Greer entered a plea of not guilty when ha appeared at the Otahuhu Police Court yesterday. Constable Kennedy said he saw a taxi draw up outside a dance hall and defendant, a soldier and two girls get out. The two men went round the side of the hall and he asked defendant what he was carrying. Defendant replied that he had beer. Five minutes later the four people concerned approached him and asked for their beer back as they were going to a bach. Mr, McCarthy, for defendant, said his client was a vice-preeident of a boating club and had an invitation to attend the prize-giving of the Panmure Boating Club. He was not familiar with the locality and had gone to the first hall to find where, the function wae to be held. Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., said he was not satisfied with the evidence, and imposed a fine of £3 10/ with court costs 10/.
