NATION OF HEROES.
UNITED DETERMINATION. NEW ZEALAND'S PART. "The British nation is a nation of heroes whichever section you look at, and the predominating spirit of all is to get on with the war and win it," stated the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, in referring to the part New Zealanders were playing abroad and on the home front. Young heroes in every town and hamlet of the Dominion, he said, had sprung into action, and the enthusiasm of their elders had cheered them on their way to join gallant comrades. "It gives one a great feeling of pride," Mr. Parry added, "to be among the people at a town's farewell to its soldiers. There is naturally an inner sadness felt at parting with the young men, but overpowering the scene is that wonderful and magnificent spirit of patriotism which nothing can stem." Admiration was expressed by the Minister of the reorganisation of all kinds of businesses in New Zealand so that there should be the least interruption of the civil work of the men who had gone to the war. "From every sphere of activity, including the Legislature and the Public Service."' he said, "has emerged men with a united determination to help their Empire, and their work is being carried on by those left behind with a wholehearted co-operation and cheerfulness good to see."
