PAINTER FINED.
CHARGES OF ASSAULT. ADMISSION OF OFFENCES. Dual charges of assaulting Thomas Herbert Gwilliam and Yvonne Ruby Farrington yesterday were admitted by Oscar John Kendall, a painter, aged 31, when he appeared before Mr. J. Morling, S.M., in the Police Court to-day. It was explained by Sub-Inspector Calwell that Kendall and his wife were tenants of Mrs. Farrington and a dispute occurred yesterday over the rooms occupied by accused. It was alleged that Kendall rushed at Mrs. Farrington and pushed her over. Mrs. Farrington further alleged that Kendall kicked "lier. Gwilliam received a punch in the face and eye and had to go to hospital, where he had five stitches inserted in his eye. '"Kendall appears to have completely lost his temper," added Mr. Calwell. "Nothing is previously known against him. It was. rather a bad assault of its kind, and apparently there was no provocation directly to him." Mr. Aekins, who represented accused, said Kendall was a man of good character. Mrs. Farrington had been trying to get him to leave, and he had been endeavouring to secure other rooms. Yesterday Mrs. Farrington refused to accept the rent from Mrs. Kendall, and, according to Kendall, she accused Mrs. Kendall of being "a Maori." "Kendall positively denies kicking Mrs. Farrington," added counsel. ' I think the whole trouble was caused bv her using her own means of getting him out of the house and being abusive in the process." For assaulting Gwilliam, the magistrate fined Kendall £5 and ordered that half of this sura should be paid to Gwilliam, and on the charge of assaultnig Mrs. Farrington, Kendall was fined
