THEATRE EMPLOYEES.
CLAIMS FOR MORE PAY. COURT RESERVES DECISION. Claims for a new award for theatre and places-of -amusement employees were heard by tli2 Arbitration Court to-day, when the employees claimed various increases in pay, including 5/ a week more for caretakers, and 10/ a week more for ticket sellers and ushers in cinema theatres. The employees' claims also included 7/<J per ]>eriorniance instead of o/G for casual work as door-keepers, etc., 10/ per four-hour session for work at dance halls, and double time for midnight matinee work. Mr. W. T. Quealey had pnt the employees' Mr. W." E. Anderson said the employers, at the Court's request, had formed an association with a view to a Dominion award, and had collected evidence to that end. It should have l»een heard in Wellington when the Court sat there. The Dominion case was ready, and he argued against a separate award in the Auck- - land district. As to the claims made by the union, he pointed out that conditions were unchanged since the question was before the Court in November last year. The Court reserved decision.
