LARGE GIFTS.
AIR RAID DISTRESS. Big Grants Made To Afflicted Boroughs. British Official Wireless, (Reed. 1 p.m.) RUGBY, Sept. 16. Large gifts from all over the world continue to be sent to the Lord Mayor's London air raid distress fund. The Governor-General of New Zealand, Viscount Galway, telegraphed £10,000 from patriotic funds; £5000 has been sent from the British colony of Buenos Ayres; and £1000 comes from the Maharajah of Durblianga. Brisbane cabled another £25,000, the Governor- of the United Provinces one lakh of rupees and the British War Relief, New York, £5000. A fund opened l>y a Kenya newspaper already amounts to over £800. At a meeting of the executive of the Air Raid Distress Fund, large grants were made to meet the needs of- afflicted i boroughs. In one case £5000 was given.!
